Mercedes-Benz has announced a voluntary safety recall for more than 24,000 vehicles in the United States. The recall is due to a potential malfunction in the propeller shaft (driveshaft) that could lead to a loss of vehicle propulsion while in motion.

According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue was identified following a customer report in October 2025 of "losing propulsion without warning." Other reports noted noises or vibrations prior to power loss. After investigation, Mercedes-Benz determined on March 27, 2026, that a safety risk could not be ruled out.

The recall affects 24,092 vehicles, including specific 2018-2020 model years of the Mercedes-Maybach S 560, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and E-Class models in sedan, coupe, wagon, and cabriolet body styles with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Authorized dealers were notified on April 10, and affected owners will be contacted by June 2. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driveshaft free of charge. Owners with questions can contact the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center.

The company states that a production change implemented from December 20, 2019, has resolved the issue in subsequently manufactured vehicles.
