Rivian's second model, the R2, is set to arrive this June with a starting price of $55,485, positioning it near the heart of the American new vehicle market. However, CEO RJ Scaringe has indicated that the California-based EV startup is developing other versions beyond the currently revealed two-row compact crossover, according to a recent report by Reuters.

"There are other variants of R2, which we haven't shown," Scaringe stated in an interview. Rivian has previously teased a more affordable R2 variant priced under $45,000, still offering 275 miles of range. The company's future Georgia production facility, expected to open by the end of 2027, aims to support these pricing promises and enable other projects—potentially including a performance-oriented R2X model, similar to the R3X already showcased.

"What we're building in Georgia allows for different variations," Scaringe added. "So clearly there could be an R2X. There's going to be combinations. I want to be careful not to announce the program." The addition of the R2 is expected to significantly boost sales, even in a skeptical EV market, by offering Rivian's core styling and performance from the R1 lineup at a more accessible size and price. Company forecasts project a 53 percent jump in deliveries with the R2's arrival, anticipating 23,000 R2 deliveries through 2026, compared to 42,247 R1 units delivered in 2025.

Scaringe did not provide powertrain details or pricing specifics for the additional R2s, but more affordable versions will likely feature less range and a single-motor powertrain. Beyond these variants, Rivian plans to launch the R3 by early 2027, further expanding its lineup.
