A Bold Addition to the Nismo Family

Combining the Nissan Leaf with the Nismo badge might seem unconventional to some, yet the manufacturer has once again embraced this pairing. The unveiling of the latest Leaf Nismo showcases a striking, aggressive design that aims to revitalize the image of the veteran electric vehicle.

Nissan is clearly committed to diversifying its high-performance lineup, with plans to grow the Nismo portfolio to ten models—doubling its current range. By 2028, the company aims to increase annual Nismo sales from 100,000 to 150,000 units. The new Leaf Nismo is positioned as a strategic asset in achieving these ambitious growth targets.


Enhanced Visual Appeal

From a design perspective, the new Leaf Nismo leaves a strong impression. Key visual upgrades include:

  • Aerodynamic Elements: The rear now features a prominent ducktail spoiler, lending the car a much more assertive stance compared to the base model.
  • Body Styling: The vehicle sports a comprehensive body kit that contributes to a beefier, more muscular profile.
  • Detailed Accents: Signature red trim and dedicated Nismo badging are found throughout the exterior.
  • Wheels: The car rolls on exclusive 19-inch Enkei wheels, which significantly enhance its sporty side silhouette.

However, the design is not without its limitations. For instance, it retains the taillights of the standard Leaf rather than adopting the more evocative Z-inspired lighting units, which might leave some enthusiasts wanting more distinction.


Performance: More Than Just Cosmetics

While the Nismo brand is currently prioritizing visual identity over pure track dominance, Nissan has implemented several functional improvements to justify the sportier designation:

«The recalibrated powertrain software provides a 20 percent stronger initial acceleration, as well as a sharper throttle response when on the move.»

Under the skin, the engineering team has integrated shock absorbers from the X-Trail Nismo, updated the springs and stabilizers, and revised the suspension bushings. Furthermore, the lightweight 19-inch wheels help improve handling during cornering. While the powertrain output remains consistent at 160kW (approximately 214hp) for the long-range model, these software and suspension tweaks aim to provide a more engaging driving experience. Currently, the new Leaf Nismo is exclusive to the Japanese market.
