Mercedes-Benz has increased testing of its upcoming compact G-Class, nicknamed 'Little G', ahead of its expected 2027 launch. New spy photos offer the clearest view yet of this new entry-level 4x4, which will sit below the flagship G-Class.
The 'Little G' will be built on a unique platform and offer both electric and combustion engine options. It is positioned as a direct competitor to the forthcoming Land Rover Defender Sport, which will be electric-only.
Recent winter testing images near the Arctic Circle reveal key design details. The vehicle maintains the G-Class's iconic blocky silhouette, tri-window design, and spare wheel case. However, it features a new half-circle headlight signature and roof bars, suggesting a more lifestyle-oriented positioning compared to the luxury flagship.
Former Mercedes executives have stated the model requires a bespoke 'miniature ladder-frame' architecture and a significant number of unique components to stay authentic to the G-Class heritage. Design will be a "tweaked" and slightly more modern interpretation of the iconic G-Class formula.
