Land Rover has confirmed that a smaller, more affordable version of the iconic Defender SUV is actively in development. In an interview, brand director Mark Cameron stated the project is "well advanced," signaling a potential launch in the near future.
This new model will become the second vehicle under the dedicated Defender sub-brand, which focuses on capable, off-road-oriented vehicles. It is expected to feature a unique design while maintaining the rugged reputation of the Defender nameplate.
The compact SUV is anticipated to be a fully electric vehicle, built on Land Rover's Electric Modular Architecture (EMA). It will target established off-road models in size and is expected to include key features like all-wheel drive and upgraded tires for off-road performance.
Cameron described the strategy as building Defender into a "luxury lifestyle brand" with a future portfolio of models, planning seven to ten years ahead.
