While Citroën, Renault, and Peugeot dominate perceptions of French cars, France was once a powerhouse of luxury automotive manufacturing. Brands like Facel Vega stood among the world's finest.

Founded from an aeronautics firm after WWII, Facel Vega launched its own grand tourer in 1954. The FVS model combined a sleek French body with a robust American Chrysler DeSoto Hemi V8, creating an instant classic favored by celebrities and racing legends.

The car evolved into the more powerful HK500 and the luxurious Excellence sedan. Despite critical acclaim, financial troubles led the company to introduce smaller, more affordable models like the Facellia and the high-performance Facel II in a final attempt at survival.

Production ended in 1964, but Facel Vega remains a celebrated "what if" in automotive history. Its legacy proves that France not only competed in but once defined the luxury segment.
