Alpine's eagerly awaited electric successor to the A110 sports car, launching next year, will share its core platform and mechanicals with the radical Renault 5 Turbo 3E hot hatch. Alpine CEO Philippe Krief confirmed this in an exclusive interview, revealing the two models' close technical relationship.

The new electric A110 will use the new aluminium Alpine Performance Platform (APP), which positions a 70kWh battery behind the seats. It will feature a low, sporty driving position and is expected to offer more than 345bhp from dual rear motors at launch, with potential for future in-wheel motor and four-wheel-drive variants.

Styling will evolve the current model's iconic silhouette with a more futuristic aesthetic. The interior will be a new, driver-focused design prioritizing physical controls over digital screens to enhance engagement. Krief envisions the A110 spawning multiple variants, including coupé, convertible, and longer GT versions, to transform Alpine into a true rival to Porsche's 911.

While targeting a weight around 1500kg and a range over 300 miles, the challenge will be managing costs, as the related Renault 5 Turbo 3E is priced at £140,000. This new A110 is the first of seven new Alpine models planned, leading an expansion that may eventually include an ultra-exclusive hypercar.
