Although CFMoto primarily focuses on ATVs and UTVs, the company is reportedly entering the open market with its engine expertise. It will supply motorcycle manufacturer Regal Raptor with powertrains for the upcoming DD1000 Sidecar. This collaboration was unexpected, but the logic behind it is clear.
Lifeng, the owner of the Regal Raptor brand, is known for motorcycles and electric bikes. To expand without designing a vehicle from scratch, Regal Raptor plans to build a two-wheel-drive motorcycle with one driven wheel at the back of a sidecar. Patents filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office suggest this model may be available in the United States.
The main feature is the Regal Raptor DD1000, a large cruiser powered by a CFMoto engine. Beneath its body lies a 963cc V-twin engine, similar to those in CFMoto's CForce 1000 ATVs and UForce 1000 UTVs. This robust motor has proven reliable for many users.
If the DD1000 Sidecar becomes a reality and reaches the U.S., the sidecar's powered wheel will likely be driven by a long shaft drive. This setup simplifies the two-wheel-drive system, allowing the front tire to focus on steering while the engine powers both rear tires, similar to rear-wheel-drive mode in CFMoto's ATVs and UTVs.
While this vehicle isn't a top priority on our must-ride list, it presents an intriguing concept. We are eager to see if it comes to life.
