Audi has officially entered the full-size SUV segment with the reveal of the 2027 Q9. Designed as the brand's new luxury flagship, this three-row vehicle focuses on balancing interior spaciousness with cutting-edge engineering and innovative lighting technology. The SUV will be manufactured in Bratislava, Slovakia, with U.S. market availability slated for the fourth quarter of 2026. The Q9 features a muscular, refined aesthetic dominated by Audi’s signature Singleframe grille and a seamless black mask housing the headlights. A distinct design choice is the repositioning of the license plate to the bumper, allowing for a cleaner tailgate profile bridged by a continuous LED light strip.


Buyers can select between two primary design aesthetics:

  • Advanced Line: Emphasizes elegance with vertical grille bars and sophisticated, understated details.
  • S Line: Offers a more aggressive stance, featuring an open-design grille, sportier front fascia, and a prominent rear spoiler.

Wheel options range from 21 to 23 inches, with larger 23-inch variants equipped with performance tires. To ensure a quiet cabin, the factory includes acoustic foam inserts in larger wheel packages to minimize road noise.

With a 123.5-inch wheelbase, the Q9 offers a spacious environment for all occupants. The interior utilizes high-end materials such as Fine Nappa leather and real wood inlays. Standard configurations accommodate seven passengers, while an optional six-passenger layout replaces the second row with individual, heated captain's chairs.

  • Powered Doors: The Q9 introduces electronic doors that open up to 90 degrees with soft-close functionality and obstacle detection.
  • PDLC Panoramic Sunroof: A large glass roof that uses switchable transparency to shift from clear to opaque, blocking 99.5% of UV rays without the need for a fabric shade.

Digital Cockpit and Audio Experience

The dashboard is defined by the MMI Panoramic Display, combining an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit with a 14.5-inch touchscreen running on Android Automotive OS. The system integrates an AI-powered voice assistant capable of using ChatGPT for inquiries. For the front passenger, a separate 12.3-inch display with a privacy filter allows for media consumption without distracting the driver.


The audio experience is elevated by an available 1,360-watt Bang & Olufsen system. As described by the manufacturer, «The system incorporates dedicated headrest speakers for personal phone calls and navigation prompts, while the seat actuators vibrate to let front occupants physically feel low-frequency bass notes.»

The Q9 introduces production-first lighting features, including high-resolution Digital Matrix LED headlights that create a "shadow box" to prevent blinding other drivers. The rear of the vehicle features the industry's first curved digital OLED panels, which utilize 512 controllable segments to create unique light signatures and safety projections, such as hazard warning graphics and ground-projected turn signals.

Powering the Q9 is a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, delivering 429 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, the vehicle achieves a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds. Ride quality is managed by standard adaptive air suspension and, on higher trims, all-wheel steering for enhanced maneuverability.


Safety and Automated Driving

The Q9 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety tech, including automated emergency braking and a 360-degree camera system. For highway travel, the Adaptive Cruise Assist Plus enables SAE Level 2 hands-free driving on approved road segments.
