Audi's electric sports car project, previewed by the minimalist Concept C, is progressing toward a confirmed 2027 production start. The model, internally called "C Sport," will share its underlying architecture with the electric Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman, a link that secures platform development within the Volkswagen Group.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has assured employees the program continues, even as Porsche re-evaluates its own electric 718 plans. This commitment positions the C Sport as a key step in maintaining Audi's sports car presence during the industry's shift to electrification.

For markets like the U.S., where the Audi TT was discontinued, this electric coupe aims to fill a growing void. Audi emphasizes the car must deliver true sports car fundamentals—sharp handling, strong performance, and a dedicated cabin—to succeed beyond being a mere technology showcase.

Despite uncertainty surrounding Porsche's parallel program, Audi is sending a clear signal that its electric coupe remains on schedule and is a core part of the brand's future direction.
