Refreshed Design and Aesthetics

Toyota has officially unveiled a mid-cycle update for the 2027 Sequoia. Drawing inspiration from the recently refreshed Tundra, the full-size SUV features a more structured, horizontal front-end design developed by Toyota’s CALTY Design Research facility. Key visual enhancements include a retextured grille, an upright lower bumper, and seamless rectangular fog lights. Higher-tier models gain a more prominent LED light bar integrated into the grille, with optional RIGID Industries fog lamps available for enthusiasts.


Introducing the Trailhunter Package

The most significant addition to the lineup is the debut of the Trailhunter trim. Positioned as an accessible factory-built overlanding option, this package is built upon the popular SR5 grade rather than the top-tier trims. To ensure trail readiness, the Sequoia Trailhunter replaces the standard suspension with specialized Old Man Emu shocks. Other rugged hardware includes:

  • 18-inch bronze alloy wheels with 33-inch Michelin LTX Trail tires.
  • Heavy-duty recovery hooks located at the front.
  • Enhanced underbody skid plates for extra protection.
  • Electronic off-road tools, including a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and low-speed Crawl Control.

Cabin Technology Overhaul

Toyota has responded to customer feedback by making its 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen system standard across all 2027 Sequoia models. Powered by AT&T 5G connectivity, the interface offers a smartphone-like experience with customizable widgets and an improved, faster voice assistant. Furthermore, the vehicle now includes:

"Advanced digital integration, such as native Wallet Keys for Apple, Google, and Samsung devices, allowing owners to access and start the vehicle directly from their mobile wallets even when the device battery is low."

Additional features include a standard integrated dashcam that captures 20-second clips of incidents and a 2.4-kW onboard inverter, allowing users to power campsite appliances or equipment directly from the hybrid battery.


Safety Sense 4.0 and Performance

The 2027 model year introduces Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0). This updated suite utilizes enhanced sensors and camera hardware to provide comprehensive active safety coverage, including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Lane Tracing Assist. All trims continue to utilize the robust 437-hp i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.


Warranty and Availability

Toyota provides a solid coverage plan for the new Sequoia, featuring a 36-month/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Hybrid components are backed for 8 years/100,000 miles, with the primary battery protected for 10 years/150,000 miles. While official pricing and final towing specifications remain forthcoming, the SUV is slated to enter production in the fall of 2026.
