In the 1980s, we subjected Porsche's popular entry-level sports car, the 944, to our rigorous long-term testing program. Our 1983 model had a base price of $23,195.

The 944 succeeded the 924 in Porsche's lineup. It came standard with a five-speed manual transmission, while power steering was an optional extra. During the test, some drivers noted the cabin layout felt snug, particularly the space between the seat and the steering wheel.

This retrospective includes a gallery of images from our time with this iconic '80s sports car.
