After intercepting our new Renault 5 EV at the UK docks, a long-term test began. The car, in top Iconic trim with a vibrant Pop Yellow paint, immediately impressed with its fun handling and quiet, refined ride. Over 15,000 miles, it proved to be a capable and enjoyable companion.
The 5's compact size made it perfect for city driving, while its 52kWh battery provided a reliable real-world range of around 200-240 miles. Its eye-catching retro-modern design consistently drew enthusiastic attention from the public, making every journey an event.
Driving dynamics were a highlight, with sharp handling and a comfortable, mature ride quality belying its supermini status. The interior was well-built and user-friendly, featuring a clever 'My Safety Perso' system to customize driver aids.
Despite minor quirks and a boot that's tight for its class, the Renault 5 emerged as a compelling, well-rounded electric vehicle. It combines genuine fun with everyday practicality, making it easy to recommend but hard to give back after an extended test.
